Hands Off WikiLeaks!
Information released by WikiLeaks helped fuel social justice movements across the globe over the past year, from the Arab Spring to Occupy Wall Street. Just as CODEPINK sprang to action at the frontlines of these movements, we have been instrumental in helping WikiLeaks democratize information for the 99% -- spreading the truth about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and supporting Bradley Manning, the young Private accused of leaking documents to WikiLeaks.
From naked protests to stickering at gay pride parades to holding protests at the military prison, CODEPINKers across the country stepped up to speak out against Bradley Manning’s shameful mistreatment. The uproar created by these coalition actions forced the U.S. military to improve Manning’s pre-trial conditions, moving him from solitary confinement in Quantico, Va. to more humane facilities in Leavenworth, KS. When Manning’s first hearing was announced, CODEPINKers traveled to Fort Meade, MD to rally outside the hearing and even helped organize a bus trip from Occupy Wall Street to allow occupiers to stand in solidarity with their hero.
